FNC Shannon Bream Campus Speech

Fox News @ Night invited me back to join Shannon Bream on Friday, August 17, 2018. My fellow panelist was Nicki Neily, President of a group called Free Speech.

Our topic was the need for free speech and debate on college campuses today. There is a new movement to get people with opposing views together and work to open communication.

I argue, again, for insensitivity training so feelings aren’t hurt so easily. Plus the fact this really isn’t that different from 20 years ago.

I also pointed out that it’s fun for the right to pick on college students regarding the First Amendment, yet ~40% of Republicans (it’s actually 43%) want the President to have the power to shut down media they don’t like.

And, I very intentionally brought up the need for another James Baldwin vs. William F. Buckley, Jr. debate at Cambridge in 1965 where an eloquent man of color decimated WFB in front of a white crowd, on the topic of racism.

FNC Tucker Carlson Mark Steyn John Brennan Security

Tucker Carlson brought me back on his Fox News Channel show Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Mark Steyn and then Tucker took the position that former CiA director John Brennan rightfully had his security clearance revoked by President Trump.

I countered that there are two arguments and a potential legal argument against this revocation based on Brennan’s anti-Trump speech on another cable news outlet.

  • Attacks on the Free Press – see the over 350 newspapers writing about it yesterday.
  • Trump attempting to silence critics
  • There is a good reason for top officials to keep their clearance so new top officials can have continuity in their ability to talk about on-going operations.
  • After my appearance, more than 70 former intelligence officials signed a letter making a nearly identical argument as I did with Tucker.
  • My reference to administrative law is based on a number of factors related to the state creating a property right of a license (for example liquor) and requiring complete administrative due process before revocation.

None of this excuses a closer look at why over 4 million people have security clearances, some of which may have no reason to still have one.

Fox News Tucker Carlson Fascism Free Speech

Thanks again to Fox News Channel and Tucker Carlson for having me on the show, Friday, March 30, 2018!

We discussed Hillary Clinton’s interview at Rutgers University where there was an intimation about fascism and dictatorship in the USA. Plus, Tucker and I discussed and debated the responsible parties and issues around speech and fascism.

Here is a little highlight from the segment:

Interviews with Flemming Rose on Free Speech and Dr Kit Yarrow on Shopping

When the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published the cartoons of the prophet Mohammed in 2005, Denmark found itself at the center of a global battle about the freedom of speech. The paper’s culture editor, Flemming Rose, defended the decision to print the 12 drawings, and he quickly came to play a central part in the debate about the limitations to freedom of speech in the 21st century. In his new book, The Tyranny of Silence, Mr. Rose writes about the people and experiences that have influenced the way he views the world and his understanding of the crisis, including meetings with dissidents from the former Soviet Union and former Muslims living in Europe. He provides a personal account of an event that has shaped the debate about what it means to be a citizen in a democracy maintaining free speech and how to coexist in a world that is increasingly multicultural, multireligious, and multiethnic.

Kit Yarrow, Ph.D., is an award-winning consumer psychologist, a professor, author, consultant and speaker. Her home base is Golden Gate University, where she is a jointly appointed professor of both psychology and marketing. As part of her ongoing research on the psychology of consumers, Dr. Yarrow conducts interviews and ethnographies on a regular basis. She shares her findings and analysis in her books, Decoding the New Consumer Mind (Wiley, 2014) and Gen BuY (Wiley, 2009) which Ethan discusses with her in this interview.
