Let me put the DNC Server/Ukraine hoax to rest. Please feel free to share (please credit me when you do).
I was asked again why the DNC didn’t allow the FBI to have the server for analysis. Here’s my response:
It has nothing to do with allow. That’s the wrong question and I’ve never seen evidence they “didn’t allow” the FBI to do as you ask.
InfoSec is almost entirely virtual and almost never physical. The only reason I want to physically examine a server is for physical fingerprints OR extremely rarely when attempting to recover data off of wiped hard drives (however this almost never happens anymore as anyone with any skill knows how to wipe drives and make them unrecoverable, I used to do it for banks, insurance companies, etc).
InfoSec forensics is almost entirely reviewing detailed technical logs (from servers, routers, switches, and computers which are a combination of physical and virtual) and using software to analyze them, making traces using arcane technical jargon that few actually understand.
The president and his defenders claim the server was in Ukraine. False. Easily proven false. IP addresses are assigned in blocks to Internet providers BY COUNTRY. The DNC mail server was not using a Ukrainian IP address, therefore it could NOT have been in Ukraine when it was operating. The global routing tables would have never routed the traffic and that cannot be done, even with highly sophisticated tools.
The whole idea of a mail server is specious nowadays. I was CTO of a tech company I cofounded where we hosted mail servers for many companies, including those with high security concerns (in addition to creating a product called Rapid Rebound, etc.) Every mail server we setup dating back to 2005 was a virtual setup. Physically grabbing my servers would have been meaningless, other than someone’s desire to brute force hack the encryption.
In sum, the whole DNC server/Ukraine connection is a sad hoax perpetrated to redirect attention away from the president/Giuliani/etc. A classic red herring. Exactly as my grandfather Bunny used in his magic tricks so the audience wouldn’t see what he was really doing to setup the trick.
While impeachment hearings continue, the Trump DOJ OIG just cleared the conspiracy of the Russia investigation origins.
Yes, mistakes were made, but no conspiracy against Trump.
Again: NO CONSPIRACY AGAINST TRUMP
It’s important to note criticisms: “neither the AG Guidelines nor the DIOG contain a provision requiring Department consultation before opening an investigation such as the one here involving the alleged conduct of individuals associated with a major party presidential campaign.”
LEGITIMATE INVESTIGATION – “FBI had an authorized purpose when it opened Crossfire Hurricane to obtain information about, or protect against, a national security threat or federal crime, even though the investigation also had the potential to impact constitutionally protected activity.”
LISA PAGE IS CLEARED! “while Lisa Page attended some of the discussions regarding the opening of the investigations, she did not play a role in the decision to open Crossfire Hurricane or the four individual cases.”
PETER STRZOK IS CLEARED! “We further found that while Strzok was directly involved in the decisions to open Crossfire Hurricane and the four individual cases, he was not the sole, or even the highest-level, decision maker as to any of those matters.”
NOT an anti-Trump investigation “We concluded that Priestap’s exercise of discretion in opening the investigation was in compliance with Department and FBI policies, and we did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that political bias or improper motivation influenced his decision.” Carter Page in real trouble.
“We did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that political bias or improper motivation influenced the decisions to open the four individual investigations.”
Susan Hendricks filled in for Carol Costello today on HLN Across America. I joined Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer of South Carolina to discuss the while-we-were-on-air unfolding press conference with President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland.
I didn’t mince words about the shameful state of the Republican party and their support of this president.
The press conference followed a two hour one-on-one meeting between the two presidents and a working lunch with their aides.
In the press conference, Trump did not criticize Putin or the cyber-attacks that the US intelligence community says he coordinated to help Trump’s 2016 election campaign. “I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today,” Trump said.
Putin denied meddling and said Russia “doesn’t plan” to interfere in US domestic politics.
Putin presented Trump with a football from the World Cup. Trump said he would give it to his son, Baron. Republican senator Lindsay Graham, however, warned this could be a bad idea. “I’d check the soccer ball for listening devices and never allow it in the White House,” Putin said.
In case you missed my appearance on CNN and CNN International to talk about the baffling press conference that President Trump gave on Thursday, here it is! Also, it was a pleasure to join host Michael Holmes for the first time, Dylan Byers, and fellow talk radio host at sister station TalkRadio 790 KABC, John Phillips!
I doubt the system failure explanation on the part of Nasdaq. They spend hundreds of millions of dollars per year on ultra-high performance computing systems with redundancies at every level of the systems. It is extremely unlikely that a system failure occurred without an outside influence.
Update 8/22/13 12:10 Pacific Time – Trading is set to resume right now. Securities and Exchange Commission spokesman John Nester said: “We are monitoring the situation and are in close contact with the exchanges.”
